Mnemonic Phrase Safekeeping Guidelines

When creating a Bitpie account, you will be prompted to back up 12 words, which are your account's mnemonic phrase. This is equivalent to your "private key." Whoever possesses these 12 words owns the coins in that account. The importance of these words cannot be overstated. The 12 words must be kept by you, and if they are lost, they cannot be recovered.

How to Safeguard Your Mnemonic Phrase

  1. Write Down on Paper or Other Cold Medium:

    • Write the mnemonic phrase correctly and clearly on paper or other cold media (such as a metal mnemonic board).
    • Store it in a very secure place at home.
    • Do not store the mnemonic phrase by taking a photo with your phone or using computer software, email, cloud storage, WeChat favorites, or other digital means.

  2. Verify Your Mnemonic Phrase:

    • Both new and old users should verify the correctness of their backed-up mnemonic phrases.
    • Go to Home -> Me -> Wallet Settings -> Verify Mnemonic Phrase to verify the correctness of your backed-up mnemonic phrase.
    • If you find that you have not backed up your mnemonic phrase or have lost it, go to Home -> Me -> Wallet Management -> Show Mnemonic Phrase to view and back up your mnemonic phrase.
    • Ensure that the backed-up mnemonic phrase is correct for continued use of the account.

  3. Avoid Unintended Data Loss:

    • Do not arbitrarily clear Bitpie data, restore factory settings, uninstall the Bitpie wallet, or format your phone.
    • If there are coins in your Bitpie account, be extra cautious!

  4. Do Not Disclose Your Mnemonic Phrase:

    • Do not disclose your mnemonic phrase to anyone, and do not expose it in any online medium.
    • If the mnemonic phrase is exposed, do not store coins in that account, and transfer assets immediately.
    • Anyone asking for your mnemonic phrase is a scammer!

Severity Warning!!!

  • Loss of Mnemonic Phrase: If the mnemonic phrase is lost or backed up incorrectly and you accidentally uninstall Bitpie, lose the phone with Bitpie installed, or reset your phone, you will not be able to recover the coins in the wallet. Simply put, lost coins cannot be recovered!
  • Disclosure of Mnemonic Phrase: If someone else obtains your mnemonic phrase, there is a high risk that they will transfer your coins away. Blockchain assets are irreversible and anonymous; once transferred, they are almost impossible to recover!
